Job Description
- Vision technician in the healthcare industry is also known as Eye Technician.
- Work under the direct supervision of a registered Ophthalmologist
- Clinical duties include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and dispensing ophthalmic prescription
- Administrative duties include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records
- Perform many pharmacy-related functions
- Can work in Hospital, Eye Clinic, Nursing Home, etc.
- Self-employed – opens own Spectacle Shop

Key Training Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding about the role of Vision technician in the healthcare settings.
- Ability to perform clinical skills essential in performing administrative and certain clinical duties i.e. scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and dispensing ophthalmic prescription.
- Safe handling of devices and positioning of patient for measurement of visual acuity and follow safe practices to use equipment’s required in their role.
- Demonstrate ability to guide & educate patient on relevant information under the guidance or supervision of ophthalmologist.
- Demonstrate bio medical waste management ,Practice infection control measures and use techniques to maintain the personal hygiene needs
- Demonstrate Demonstrate safe handling and storing of documents, record maintenance etc.
- Professional behavior, personal qualities and characteristics of a Vision Technician
- Good communication and team worker ability in the role of Vision Technician
